The application window is now closed for the UWE Distance Learning Paramedic (DLP) Science programme; cohort 12.
Useful Information for you – The future of Paramedic Development Programmes
You will be aware that as of September 2021 the HCPC will be imposing a requirement for new registrants to achieve a BSc Hons degree level qualification in order to register as a Paramedic. The UWE Distance Learning Programme (DLP) in its current form does not satisfy this criteria, as it results in a Diploma in Higher Education and therefore DLP cohort 12 will be the last UWE DLP programme.
Students already progressing on study programmes at the point of September 2021 will retain grandfather rights to registration, so students on DLP programmes will be eligible for registration on completion of their studies.
As a result of HCPC’s changing criteria, the Trust has been working with education providers to establish a Paramedic Apprenticeship route, which will be delivered in conjunction with the University of Cumbria’s Centre of Excellence. This programme is anticipated to start in January 2021 with a cohort of 40.
As the Paramedic Apprenticeship route will be funded through the Apprenticeship Levy, compared to a cost of £5000 for DLP12, it is anticipated that there will be exceptionally high competition for places on the first cohort of the Apprenticeship.
Please note that this is all of the information that the Trust has at this stage regarding future education programmes.
Below are the FAQs for cohort 12, along with the timeline for the programme at UWE.
